Lane restrictions start Wednesday on U.S. 93 Rock Creek bridge for seal application
TWIN FALLS – Crews will be applying a concrete sealant to the new Rock Creek bridge on U.S. 93 west of Twin Falls beginning on Wednesday (Sept. 14), the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction as crews complete each half the bridge. The bridge treatment should be complete in two weeks.
Crews are applying sealant comprised of silica sand and crack-filling resin gel designed to protect the concrete surface from winter plowing and ice treatments as well as heavy traffic. The work is weather dependent since the resin is sensitive to moisture and temperature and can only be applied in ideal conditions. The resin must cure for multiple days before traffic is allowed to drive on the surface.
A speed reduction to 45 mph will be in effect. Drivers should use caution through the work zone and watch for equipment entering or exiting the site.
The bridge work, as well as a chip seal coat following next summer, has been added to the 5.5-mile Twin Falls Alternate Route Stage II project using funds provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Construction started in September 2009 and was completed last December.
