Ground and air search launched in central Idaho for overdue aircraft

BOISE – A ground and air search is under way in central Idaho for an overdue Cessna 182 airplane, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The plane left Salmon at approximately 10 p.m. Monday for Caldwell. Cabin owners in the Stanley area reported to law enforcement at 11:30 p.m. what sounded like a stalled aircraft engine. The last radar image of the plane is in the same general  area.

The Custer County Sheriff’s Department launched a ground search this morning. The Civil Air Patrol also launched an air search.

It is believed there were two people on board the plane but their status is undetermined. The name of the pilot is being withheld until relatives can be contacted.
