Elkhorn Road signal malfunction will require replacement
KETCHUM – A malfunction in the electronic controls for a traffic signal at the intersection of Idaho 75 and Elkhorn Road will require replacing the entire unit, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The signal will remain in flashing mode until the unit can be replaced. Stop signs will be placed on the east-west roads.
Beginning today (Thursday, Sept. 15), the signal is operating in a yellow-caution flash mode for north-south traffic on Idaho 75. Stop signs have been placed for traffic entering the highway on Elkhorn Road and River Ranch Road.
ITD personnel attempted to repair the malfunction and return the signal to normal operation, but they were unable to correct the problem. A similar malfunction had been recorded with the same signal control panel in the past, but was corrected.
A new signal-control panel will be ordered and installed at the intersection, but a time frame for the replacement is not known at this time. The intersection will remain in the caution-safety flash mode until the replacement is installed.
Drivers are urged to use caution through the intersection and watch for other drivers who may be unaware of the signal changes.
