Washington Street/Falls Avenue intersection closures begin this week for paving

TWIN FALLS – Paving the final portion of Washington Street between Filer Avenue and Cheney Drive is beginning this week. Drivers should prepare for changes to traffic patterns over the next two weeks, including individual closures of the east and west legs to Falls Avenue, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Crews will begin paving the northbound lanes beginning Wednesday (Oct. 5). Weather permitting and if paving progresses as planned, the contractor will close the eastern half of the Falls Avenue intersection as soon as Friday (Oct. 7) to begin final reconstruction and paving of the intersection. The closure is expected to last four days.

After completing reconstruction of the eastern half of Falls Avenue, traffic will be shifted onto the northbound lanes between Filer Avenue and North College Road as the contractor completes reconstruction and paving to the western half of the Falls Avenue intersection. The western half of the intersection will be closed during this work, which is also expected to last four days.

During the closures to each portion of the Washington and Falls intersection, drivers are asked to find an alternate route. No detour route is assigned for these closures.

An updated schedule of paving activities and a more exact estimate of the intersection closures will be provided later this week.

Following completion of paving, minor items are expected to remain and drivers can expect short-term lane closures throughout the construction zone.

DEBCO Construction, of Orofino, is the contractor for the federally funded, $6.5 million project. The project is sponsored by the city of Twin Falls and administered by ITD.
