Washington Street/Falls Avenue intersection work to continue Monday

TWIN FALLS – The west side of the Washington Street/Falls Avenue intersection will be closed for reconstruction and paving beginning as early as Monday (Oct. 17), repeating a process that took place on the eastern half of the intersection this week, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Paving and other work in the eastern half of the intersection is expected to be completed Friday (Oct. 14). Instead of closing the western half immediately, crews will begin the excavation and paving process Monday, leaving the intersection open in each direction through the weekend.

Late on Sunday or early Monday, traffic will be switched onto the northbound lanes of Washington Street, and the western half of the Falls Avenue intersection will be closed. Washington Street will remin a two-lane, two-way route. Falls Avenue east will be opened to motorists after the traffic shift. Only traffic from Falls Avenue west of the intersection will be blocked during this phase of construction.

Closure barricades will be placed on Falls Avenue near Sparks Street, but traffic will be allowed farther east to access businesses and residents near the Washington and Falls intersection. Depending on weather, the closure is expected to last four days. No detour route is assigned for the closure.

After completing reconstruction of the western half of the intersection, major construction will be complete. Minor construction-related projects are expected to remain after paving, and drivers can expect intermittent short-term lane closures throughout the construction zone until the project is complete late this month.

DEBCO Construction, of Orofino, is the contractor for the federally funded, $6.5 million project that is sponsored by the city of Twin Falls and administered by ITD.
