ITD to expedite U.S. 95 bridges project south of Culdesac before winter shutdown

LEWISTON - The Idaho Transportation Department has accelerated the contract to complete Phase 1 of the Lapwai Creek Bridges project before the onset of winter conditions.

The project includes completion of the first half of the seven structures, constructing ramps to the new structures and splitting traffic onto the new and old bridges to reduce conflicts.

Once Phase 1 is completed, the contractor will suspend work until the spring of 2012. During the winter shutdown, the routes will be opened to traffic with a 45-mph speed limit.

The contractor’s new hours of operation will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., six days a week, Mondays through Saturdays,

Flagging operations will be in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Drivers should anticipate delays of 15 to 25 minutes when traveling through the project.

The project consists of replacing seven bridges between mileposts 286 and 289 on U.S. 95 south of Culdesac. The project includes replacing older, existing multi-span structures with wider simple span bridges. Construction began June 20 and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2013.

Wadsworth Brothers of Draper, Utah, is the prime contractor on the $8.9 million project.
