Signal replacement scheduled for this week in Buhl

BUHL – The traffic signal on the east end of Buhl, damaged more than two months ago by an errant commercial truck, is expected to be restored to working condition and replace the temporary four-way stop at the intersection over the next few days, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Crews will be installing a new pole, mast and signal heads, and an overhead luminare during the day on Tuesday and Wednesday (Oct. 25 and 26).

The four-way stop has been in effect at the intersection of Broadway and Clear Lake Road (U.S. 30 and Idaho 46) after a crash destroyed the traffic signal pole on the northwest corner of the intersection. The signal pole was hit by a commercial truck on Aug. 18 while the driver was attempting to turn westbound from Clear Lake Road onto Broadway Avenue. The truck was not able to maneuver around the corner when he hit and cracked the pole near its base with a pup trailer.

Replacement of the signal pole was expected to take as long as four months because it was thought the pole foundation would need to be replaced. Investigation showed the foundation to be in good shape, however.

There will be temporary lane closures, flaggers and brief delays while the pole and mast arm are lifted into place. Crews may be working on site throughout the remainder of the week and may cause other temporary delays. Drivers are urged to use caution when workers are present.
