ITD will be repairing damage on Monday from last week’s Connector crash; memorial items will need to be moved Friday
BOISE - On Monday (March 19), crews will begin week-long repairs on a section of the concrete Connector (I-184) wall near the Curtis Road westbound entrance damaged in a crash last week.
The damaged section is only about 15 feet in length, but the wall and sidewalk are all one piece, and contain a lot of rebar. There's also an electrical junction box to contend with.
In order to do the repairs, ITD crews will remove the memorial items tomorow (Friday, March 16). The memorial items are leaning against or attached to the wall that will have to be torn out and replaced.
The items will be gently removed and preserved. Items not claimed at the time of removal will be kept at the District 3 offices at 8150 Chinden Boulevard for retrieval.
“The wall needs to be replaced as soon as possible for safety reasons,” said ITD maintenance coordinator Dan Bryant, who supervises efforts in the southwest Idaho region. “The items would be destroyed in the process if we don’t remove them.”
The repair will begin after the morning commute on Monday, likely around 9 a.m. The lane closest to the wall will be closed, but the other lanes will remain open at that location. The sidewalk will also be closed to pedestrians.
The repairs are estimated to cost about $30,000, which ITD will try to recoup from the insurance carrier.
