Construction resumes on seven Lapwai Creek bridges near Culdesac

LEWISTON – A construction project that replaces seven bridges on U.S. 95 near Culdesac resumed this week after being idle for the winter, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The bridges cross Lapwai Creek between mileposts 286 and 290, about 23 miles south of Lewiston. The $8.9 million project began last year and includes replacement of existing multi-span structures with wider, simple-span bridges.

New approach slabs are being constructed at the four northern bridges, beginning at Culdesac. Vehicles will travel on the old bridges until approaches to the new bridges are complete.

Crews from Wadsworth Brothers Construction of Draper, Utah, will work 10-hour shifts through Thursday this week and will begin a six-day schedule Monday (April 9). A 24-hour flagging operation will control traffic through the construction area until late May, after which the route will be restored to two-way traffic.

Motorists should expect total delays of 15-30 minutes and could be stopped at more than one bridge.

Construction began in June 2011 and is expected to be complete in the summer of 2013.

No impact is expected for over-legal commercial vehicles. Drivers are encouraged to visit the 511 website (511.idaho.gov) or call 511 for current information about the project.
