Reconstruction of interchange on I-15 west of Dubois began today (April 3)

RIGBY - Reconstruction of the Interstate 15 interchange west of Dubois began today (April 3), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Initially, travel on I-15 will be reduced to one lane in both directions during working hours. As work progresses, traffic on Idaho 22 will be redirected to I-15 to access the state highway east or west of the bridge.

Construction will take place on weekdays, with some work possible on weekends. The speed limit may be reduced as construction advances.

During construction, motorists should anticipate merging traffic, watch for construction workers and equipment, and obey all traffic signs.

Constructed in 1963, the bridge is nearing the end of its design life. The new interchange will provide a wider bridge with an expected 50-year design life. The existing structure is 32 feet 8 inches wide; its replacement will be 56 feet wide.

The new interchange (Exit 167) will improve traffic safety by providing a center turn lane, improved truck turning and longer on- and off-ramps. Bridge and ramp reconstruction is scheduled for completion this year, with seal coating and shoulder seeding planned in 2013.

The transportation department awarded Western Construction Inc., of Boise, the $4.4 million contract. For more information about the project, contact Western Construction (208) 345-1440.
