Construction update for eastern Idaho, July 6-12

RIGBY - Here is the eastern Idaho highway construction update for July 6-12:

Sunnyside I-15 Interchange to I-15B Traffic on Interstate 15 south of Idaho Falls is one lane in each direction between mileposts 114 and 120 throughout the summer. The speed limit is 55 mph. Concrete will be placed on the I-15 interchange overpass on Thursday and Monday (July 7 and 11), and the last of the steel girders will be placed on the Snake River Bridge this week. Idaho Construction of Kimberly is the contractor for the $23 million project scheduled for completion by fall 2006.

U.S. 20, Hitt and St. Leon interchanges Traffic is one lane in each direction and the speed limit is 55 mph between mileposts 311 and 313. Access is closed to and from U.S. 20 north of Idaho Falls to Ucon. Businesses on those roads can be accessed from county roads. Western Construction of Boise is building the $19 million project, which is scheduled for completion by this fall.

U.S. 20/Holbrook Road Work continues on U.S. 20 south of Rigby. The U.S. 20/Holbrook Road intersection is permanently closed. H-K Contractors of Idaho Falls is lengthening the southbound on-ramp, realigning 200 North west of the highway and repairing the existing overpass. The South Rigby overpass is expected to reopen Monday or early next week after new concrete has cured. Alternate routes are the North Rigby and County Line Road interchanges.

Idaho 33, Canyon Creek Bridge The speed limit is 45 mph. Traffic is being routed over the old bridge throughout construction. Sletten Construction of Great Falls, Mont., is scheduled to complete the $4.3 million project by fall.

I-15, Hamer to Dubois, northbound Traffic is one lane in both directions between mileposts 150 and 168 while the northbound lanes of I-15 are repaved and seal coated. Western Construction of Boise is the contractor on the $5.2 million project.

Seal coats H-K Contractors of Idaho Falls and Johnson Construction of Logan, Utah, will seal coat several highways in eastern Idaho. A seal coat protects the existing road from water damage, prolongs its life and provides better traction. Motorists are reminded to drive slowly and follow other vehicles at a safe distance to reduce the risk of windshield damage.

Projects include:

  • Idaho 33, mileposts 0-5, 16-21 and 29-39
  • U.S. 93 west of Arco
  • Idaho 31 at Pine Creek Pass
  • U.S. 26 from Swan Valley to the Wyoming line
  • U.S. 20, Twin Groves to Chester, northbound lanes
