New Dubois rest area on I-15 to open Tuesday (May 1)
RIGBY - The new Dubois rest area on Interstate 15 will open on Tuesday (May 1), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The newly reconstructed rest area on I-15 at Exit 167 has been upgraded to gateway status, with full rest stop amenities such as a visitor’s center, additional parking for trucks and RVs, and a helipad.
Doors will open at 8 a.m. on Tuesday (May 1), with a brief flag-raising ceremony planned at 2 p.m. to which the public is invited.
The expanded rest area will operate year-round. Previously, the transportation department closed the old rest area during winter months to prevent water lines in the building from freezing.
The new rest area at Dubois includes private restrooms for families and people with disabilities, well-lighted buildings and grounds, picnic areas, security cameras, handicapped ramps from the parking lots, and outdoor vending machines.
Knife River Corporation's southern Idaho division based in Boise was the contractor for the $3 million project.
