Washington Street manhole repair begins Wednesday

TWIN FALLS – One lane of traffic will be closed for a week as crews repair settling areas of roadway under the reconstructed section of Washington Street in Twin Falls beginning Wednesday (May 9), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Northbound Washington Street will be reduced to one lane between Filer Avenue and Wirsching Avenue as crews remove a section of the roadway and the material underneath. A leak in the manhole saturated the base material of the roadway, and it began to settle as it dried.

A section of curb and sidewalk will be removed and repaired as part of the work. The repair is expected to be completed by the middle of next week.

Drivers are reminded to use caution near the lane closure and to watch for crew members and equipment in the area. There may be closures to the sidewalk and other business access locations as well.

The contractor for the project, DEBCO Construction of Orofino, is completing repairs. The federally funded, $6.5 million project was completed in October 2011. It was sponsored by the city of Twin Falls and administered by ITD.
