Survey, location work in Gooding foreshadows future traffic signal at U.S. 26/Idaho 46 junction
GOODING – Crews are continuing work in the area of the U.S. 26/Idaho 46 junction on the south side of Gooding to prepare for a new traffic signal, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The intersection improvements are needed due to increased traffic counts and the number of vehicle crashes in recent years. The signal is scheduled for installation in 2014.
ITD is obtaining survey data to support the design and development of right-of-way plans for a traffic signal. Crews will continue an examination of the area for cultural and environmental clearances in the coming months.
Signal work is not expected to include improvements to the roadway through the intersection, but will include pedestrian signals, curb ramps that improve access to sidewalks and a stormwater retention plan.
Drivers are asked to watch for survey crew members and use caution while crews are working along road rights-of-way. Drivers should be prepared for lane restrictions and short delays during regular work hours.
