Gooding, Elmore county bridge-deck repairs begin next week

SHOSHONE – A project to complete rehabilitation work on 13 bridge decks in the western Magic Valley is slated to begin Monday (May 14), the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Work will begin first on the Interstate 84 Snake River bridges near King Hill.

Work on each bridge includes grinding the existing driving surface from the bridge deck and pouring a new concrete surface for each. The bridges will also have several maintenance items completed on the top of each structure including crack-filling, water-proofing, and bolt replacement.

The Snake River bridges, located at milepost 128, are expected to be complete by mid-June, according to the initial schedule from the contractor.

I-84 will be reduced to one lane in each direction across both bridges for the duration of this phase of construction. A speed-limit reduction through the work zone will be in effect.

Other bridges that are part of this project include overpass interchanges at Glenns Ferry (Exit 121), King Hill (Exit 129), west and east Bliss (Exits 137 and 141), south Wendell (157), as well as the Power Plant Road and Hill City Road overpasses.

Work on these bridges is expected to be complete by the end of August.

JM Concrete Inc., of Idaho Falls, is the contractor for the $1.84 million project.
