U.S. 30/Snake River bridge deck repairs begin Monday

BURLEY – A project to complete maintenance and surface improvements on the U.S. 30-Snake River Bridge between Burley and Heyburn is expected to begin Monday (June 4), the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction during construction.

Initially, crews will work under the bridge to patch and repair concrete portions of the abutments and pier caps. Work will be done from a barge in the Snake River. As much as half of the bridge will be closed at a time while crews work under the structure.

Later in the summer, work will shift to the bridge surface as crews remove the asphalt overlay, patch and repair the deck, and apply a deck sealant. Crews  also will apply concrete waterproofing, replace the joint seals and install snowplow deflectors.

Drivers are asked to watch for shifting traffic patterns throughout the summer. River traffic also is encouraged to use caution near the bridge to ensure safety of workers and the barge operation.

Cannon Builders Inc., of Blackfoot, is the contractor for the $549,000 project, which also includes repair work to the Interstate 84 South Jerome interchange later this summer. The contractor expects to be finished in September.
