U.S. 95 traffic, from Ohio Match Road to Parks Road, now diverted onto the newly constructed Pope Road

COEUR D’ALENE – U.S. 95 traffic will be switched over to the new frontage road that has been constructed as part of the Chilco to Silverwood U.S. 95 highway construction project, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The traffic diversion is effective immediately (today, Friday, June 1), and is anticipated to last about seven months.

The intersection of U.S. 95 and Ohio Match Road is closed permanently for both east- and westbound traffic. Motorists can access Ohio Match Road by using Garwood Road, the old highway on the west side of U.S. 95, or by the new Pope Frontage Road on the east side.

Public access to Silverwood Theme Park will be from the new Pope Road. A new parking access from
Silverwood has been constructed off the east side of the existing parking lot. Handicap access is also available from this parking lot. A traffic signal at the parking lot entrance will facilitate traffic entering and exiting the parking lot. The southwest entrance to the back side of Silverwood will remain open from Old U.S. 95.

The contractor will begin reconstructing the highway into a four-lane, divided facility once traffic has been diverted.

The contractor for this $36 million project is Scarsella Brothers, of Spokane, Wash.

The project is expected to be complete by the end of August.
