Perrine Bridge resurfacing delayed to late summer

TWIN FALLS – Resurfacing the driving surface of the Perrine Bridge has been delayed several months because of difficulties in scheduling equipment, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The contractor is required to use a specialized, high-pressure hydroblaster to remove the concrete driving surface, but the availability of such equipment in the region is limited, resulting in postponement.

The project, which includes 12 bridges throughout Southern Idaho, was expected to begin early this month on the Perrine Bridge before moving forward to the other structures. The contractor is expected to begin work on the other bridges before returning to the Perrine Bridge on or about Aug. 1.

The Perrine Bridge project includes removal of the existing asphalt and concrete surface and replacing it with a silica-fume concrete surface. Maintenance on the handrails and the substructure also is planned. Half of the bridge, including pedestrian walkways, will be closed at all times during the work, and traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction until the project is completed.

Cannon Builders Inc., of Blackfoot, is the contractor for the $2.5 million project.
