Seal coating Idaho 33 between Hatches Corner and Wyoming starts Monday

RIGBY - Seal coating Idaho 33 between Hatches Corner, south of Tetonia, and the Wyoming state line starts Monday (June 18), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Crews will seal coat 21 miles of Idaho 33, completing the repaving project started last year.

The seal coat is scheduled for completion June 30.

Travel will be reduced to one lane, with flaggers directing traffic through the work zone. Motorists can expect delays. The speed limit will be reduced to 35 miles per hour.

Commercial transporters hauling loads wider than 14 feet need to contact construction engineer Wade Allen (208-745-5680) 24 hours in advance for special authorization.

Drivers should observe posted speed limits and keep their distance from other vehicles to reduce potential windshield damage.

Seal-coating consists of applying liquid asphalt, overlaying it with rock chips, packing the mixture by rolling, sweeping away loose chips and coating the new surface with additional asphalt to lock chips in place. The coating seals the surface against water damage and provides a semi-rough surface for improved traction.

The transportation department awarded HK Contractors Inc., of Idaho Falls, the $3.9 million resurfacing contract.
