Blue Lakes sealing project begins Monday night

TWIN FALLS – Two nights of work to seal the asphalt road surface will restrict traffic on Blue Lakes Boulevard between Falls Avenue and Pole Line Road, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Work will begin Monday (July 16) and restrict traffic from 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. each night.

Crews will apply a micro-seal to the section of Blue Lakes that was reconstructed in 2009. A micro-seal is similar to a seal coat but the materials are premixed and placed on the roadway as slurry. Traffic can be returned to the driving surface after the product has been allowed to cure for a few hours.

The micro-seal, which offers the same benefits of a seal coat and without loose gravel, is often used in higher traffic areas but is a more costly application.

The roadway will be reduced to one lane in each direction between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. from Monday evening through Wednesday morning. Crews will return to paint roadway striping later in the week. Use of an alternate route during working hours is encouraged.

Knife River Corp., of Boise, is the contractor for the $1.7 million project that included work on other roadways.
