UPDATE: Blue Lakes surface sealing delayed to next week
TWIN FALLS – Although an asphalt sealing project on Blue Lakes Boulevard between Falls Avenue and Pole Line Road has been delayed until next week, preliminary work preceding the micro seal is under way, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Drivers will still encounter minor lane restrictions beginning today (Monday, July 16) as workers begin the process of grinding lane markings from the road surface over the next week. The thermo-plastic lane markings – which include crosswalk areas and turn arrows – do not allow for sufficient bonding of the micro-seal application to the roadway.
Minor lane restrictions can be expected between 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. while crews perform this work.
The micro-seal application is expected to be delayed to the middle of next week. It will last for two nights beginning as early as July 25, and will restrict traffic to one lane in each direction between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.
Motorists are encouraged to use an alternate route during working hours.
Crews will be applying the micro seal to the section of Blue Lakes that was reconstructed in 2009. A micro seal is similar to a seal coat but the materials are premixed and placed on the roadway as slurry. Traffic can be returned to the driving surface after the product has been allowed to cure for a few hours.
Knife Rive Corp., of Boise, is the contractor for the $1.7 million project that included work on other roadways.
