UPDATE: Perrine Bridge resurfacing delayed to 2013
TWIN FALLS – Scheduled to begin in June of this year, a roadway resurfacing project on the Perrine Bridge will be delayed until the summer 2013, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
After equipment-scheduling delays pushed the Perrine Bridge completion schedule back, the decision was made to move that portion of the bridge contract into 2013 to avoid interfering with community activities in September on the Perrine and to ensure that similar work on the other 11 bridges in the contract could be completed before winter-driving conditions arrive.
“It’s never easy to delay a major portion of work for a year, but in this scenario there weren’t many other choices to ensure the contractor could complete the other bridges this year,” Resident Engineer Scot Stacey said.The existing asphalt and concrete driving surface on the Perrine Bridge will be removed and replaced by a silca-fume concrete driving surface, as well as maintenance to the handrails and the substructure. Half of the bridge, including pedestrian walkways, will be closed at all times during the work and traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction for the duration of the work.
A specific 2013 start date has not yet been decided. All other time restrictions and penalties for performance of the work outlined in the contract will be enforced once work begins.
Cannon Builders Inc., of Blackfoot, is the contractor for the $2.5 million project.
