Public comment sought on proposed Karcher/Middleton intersection improvements
NAMPA - The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) and city of Nampa will hold an open house to gather public comment on a range of proposed improvements to the intersection of Karcher and Middleton roads in Nampa.
The open house will be held Thursday, Aug. 9, at the Karcher Church of the Nazarene (2512 West Karcher Road) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
An online public meeting will begin Friday, Aug. 10, at www.itd.idaho.gov and continue for two weeks. Participants can view displays and listen to a presentation about the Karcher Road/Middleton Road Intersection Improvement Project. To register for the 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. session, please visit: https://www3.gotomeeting.com/register/466316038
Project managers from ITD and the city of Nampa will participate in the live online question-and-answer sessions.
The open house, online public meeting and live online Q&A sessions will provide the public with several opportunities to learn about the project, review the range of possible improvements and provide comments. Public input will help ITD and the city of Nampa develop improvements and finalize plans.
“Commercial development has increased rapidly since the nearby Karcher Interchange opened in 2006. As a result, traffic congestion at the Karcher Road/Middleton Road intersection has also increased. ITD estimates this area is currently one of the most crash-prone sites in Idaho,” said Aaron Bauges, an Idaho Transportation Department project manager. “The proposed improvements will greatly improve traffic flow and enhance safety for commuters, as well as nearby residents and businesses.”
The proposed improvements to the Karcher Road/Middleton Road intersection include adding new curbs, gutters, sidewalks, a traffic signal, new lanes, drainage and on-street lighting. Public comments will help ITD and the city of Nampa finalize the plans and minimize construction inconveniences for businesses and commuters.
Construction is expected to begin in 2014.
