‘Rolling roadblocks’ to slow night traffic on northbound stretch of I-15 between Blackfoot and Idaho Falls

RIGBY - “Rolling roadblocks” will slow night traffic on northbound Interstate 15 between Blackfoot and Idaho Falls Monday through Wednesday (Aug. 20-22), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Idaho State Police and ITD pilot cars will slow traffic intermittently to 25 miles per hour between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., creating a recurring 20-minute gap in traffic so construction crews south of Idaho Falls can place girders on the new Pancheri Drive overpass.

On-ramps in the slow-down area between Blackfoot (Exit 93) and the work area near Idaho Falls (Exit 118) will be blocked until pilot vehicles have passed, with flaggers directing traffic on the on-ramps.

Travel in the construction zone will be reduced to one lane. Commercial drivers transporting loads wider than 14 feet need to contact Resident Engineer Wade Allen (208-745-5680) 24 hours in advance for special authorization to pass through the construction zone.

Motorists should anticipate merging traffic, watch for pilot cars and flaggers, and obey all traffic signs.

The new Pancheri Drive overpass is being constructed just south of the existing one, after which the old bridge will be removed. The new overpass and its approaches are scheduled for completion by year end, with seal coating planned in 2013.
