Culvert repair work on Idaho 71 near Brownlee Creek will cause brief traffic impacts
BOISE - Repair work under way on a culvert serving Brownlee Creek will cause intermittent, brief lane closures during the work on Idaho 71, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The existing channel is in a half culvert resting on concrete footers with a natural floor of rock and gravel (riprap). Crews will shore up the footers and replace some of the riprap.

“Although there doesn’t appear to be any settling yet, scour has undermined spots under the upstream footers.  We are going to fix that,” said Tom Haynes, ITD District Maintenance project manager.  “We don’t want the structure settling, as this would damage the culvert and potentially impact water flow.”

Brownlee Creek flows year-round, so this work is being performed during low-flow conditions.

The project will finish by mid-November.

Western Construction, Inc., of Boise, will perform the $200,000 repair work.
