Idaho 21 between Grand Jean Junction and Banner Summit to reopen today at 1 p.m.
BOISE - Idaho 21 between Grand Jean Junction and Banner Summit will reopen to traffic today (March 3) at 1 p.m., the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The highway closed Sunday evening (Feb. 26) because of avalanche danger.  Six avalanches later covered the roadway with snow and heavy debris.

Continued mild temperatures cause snowpack to become unstable, and may lead to another road closure this weekend.

The transportation department's District 3 maintenance crews are responsible for a nine-mile section of the highway along Canyon Creek in the Grandjean Junction/Banner Summit area. That segment has 54 avalanche chutes and experiences about 90 percent of the avalanches in the state.

For updates on winter road and weather conditions, emergency closures and access to tourist information, dial 511 or visit 511.idaho.gov on the Web. Information about Idaho's highways and interstate system is available 24  hours a day.
