Highway officials to slow night traffic on southbound I-15 north of Idaho Falls late next week

RIGBY - Highway officials will slow night traffic on southbound Interstate 15 between Roberts (Exit 135) and Idaho Falls Thursday through Saturday (Oct. 25-27) for removal of the old Pancheri Drive overpass, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Idaho State Police and ITD pilot cars will slow traffic intermittently to 25 mph or less between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., creating a recurring 20-minute gap in traffic as construction crews south of Idaho Falls remove the old Pancheri Drive overpass.

On-ramps in the slow-down area between Roberts (Exit 135) and the work area (milepost 117) will be blocked as pilot vehicles pass, with flaggers directing traffic at the on-ramps.

Travel in the construction zone will be reduced to one lane. Motorists should expect repeated 20-minute delays in travel time.

Motorists should anticipate merging traffic, watch for pilot cars and flaggers, and obey all traffic signs.

Commercial drivers transporting permitted loads wider than 14 feet need to contact Resident Engineer Wade Allen (208-745-5680) 24 hours in advance for special authorization to pass through the construction zone.

The new Pancheri Drive overpass, under construction just south of the old one, is expected to be complete in early November. Seal coating is planned in 2013.
