Motorists should anticipate delays of up to 15 minutes on U.S. 12 starting Wednesday night
BOISE – Motorists traveling on U.S. 12 could experience delays of up to 15 minutes as two over-width trucks travel the highway this week, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Each truck will depart from the Port of Wilma in Washington and travel to the Montana border from 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., weather permitting. The trucks and their cargo, evaporator vessels, weigh 255,600 pounds each, are 19.6 feet tall, 16 feet wide and 141 feet long. The first transport is scheduled to start Wednesday night. The departure date for the second transport is weather-dependent, and would not start Wednesday night.
Both shipments will be accompanied by two pilot vehicles and flagging staff to alert traffic to their presence. They will travel as far as possible within the 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. schedule and if road conditions are safe.
Mammoet is the contract hauler. It is taking the evaporator vessels from Newburg, Ore., to Northern Alberta for ConocoPhillips.
