Nightime lane closures and restrictions planned on Interstate 90 in Coeur dAlene for bridge project
COEUR d'ALENE - Interstate 90 traffic will be detoured around the Government Way Bridge construction project beginning Tuesday (March 21) and continuing for three nights, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The traffic restrictions will be in place from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. each night.

Westbound traffic will be detoured at the 4th Street exit (Exit 14) onto Appleway and return to the interstate by way of the U.S. 95 interchange.  Eastbound traffic will stay on the interstate but will be restricted to one lane. Detour signs will be posted for westbound traffic.

Contractors crews will set steel for the new bridge deck.  Motorists are reminded to drive carefully through the posted work zone area and on the detour route.

The bridge closed in the summer of 2005 and is on schedule to reopen in early September.  Government Way is closed at I-90 during construction, but access to local businesses is maintained during the project.

The old Government Way Bridge was built in 1958 and was showing signs of deterioration.  Its successor will be widened to meet traffic needs. The new bridge will be a steel-girder structure and will meet current height requirements.

When completed, Government Way be four lanes from Harrison Avenue to Dalton Avenue.

Morgen Oswood of Great Falls, Mont., is the contractor on this $2.7 million project.
