Culvert work to slow traffic on U.S. 93 in Salmon next week
RIGBY - Construction to replace a failing culvert will slow traffic on U.S. 93 in Salmon Monday through Sunday (March 25-31), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Starting Monday at 7 a.m., crews will replace a collapsing culvert adjacent to Lemhi Lumber near milepost 304 on U.S. 93. Workers will install a five-foot diameter plastic culvert in place of the 36-inch diameter metal one.
Travel will be reduced to one lane, with flaggers directing traffic through the work zone. The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph. Motorists should anticipate merging traffic. They're also advised to watch for construction workers and equipment, and obey all traffic signs.
Commercial vehicles will be restricted to 12 feet in width and to legal loads. Commercial drivers transporting permitted loads wider than 12 feet need to contact Maintenance Operations Manager Ken Hahn (208-745-5640) 24 hours in advance for special authorization to pass through the construction zone.
Crews will work 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., opening the road to two-way traffic in the evenings. The project is scheduled for completion Sunday (March 31).
The existing culvert under U.S. 93 carries sub water and irrigation drainage from nearby farmland. Replacing it will relieve spring flooding along the channel and improve irrigation flows during the growing season.
