Culvert repairs to close Idaho 81 north of Malta starting Tuesday
MALTA – Repairs to a culvert will close Idaho 81 north of Malta to traffic for up to two days, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The highway will be closed between Yale Road and Idahome Road beginning Tuesday morning (April 16) while ITD maintenance crews replace the culvert and repair the highway.
The project is expected to be completed by Tuesday evening, but could extend to Wednesday (April 17) if required. The closure will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
Additional work is possible at the site for the remainder of the week but should have limited traffic impact. Drivers might encounter flaggers and minor delays.
The culvert replacement will close the road to all traffic near 300 South Road at about milepost 13. Crews will complete the work by repaving the highway cut.
Signs will be posted at Declo and Malta to warn drivers of the closure. No official detour will be in use, but drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes including Interstate 84 and Idaho 77 through Albion.
