Guardrail replacement begins Monday on U.S. 20 and Idaho 46
SHOSHONE – Aging and outdated bridge rail and guardrail will be replaced along U.S. 20 and Idaho 46 in Camas, Blaine and Gooding counties beginning Monday (May 6), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Drivers can expect minor delays along each route while the contractor removes existing guardrail, stabilizes the highway shoulders and places new posts and guardrail.
Work will begin on Idaho 46 at various locations north of Gooding between mileposts 112 and 142. The first phase will complete work at the north end of the highway between the closure gate and the U.S. 20 junction. It should be finished by the end of May. Crews then will work in the area directly north of Gooding, through the North Gooding Canal for about two weeks.
The project begins on U.S. 20 with three creek crossings near Fairfield, between mileposts 152 and 154. Work will begin May 29 and is expected to take about two weeks. The contractor will continue work near the Camas/Blaine county line at three crossings, between mileposts 164 and 168. Work on that section will begin in mid-June and extend through the July 4 holiday.
The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph through each work zone. Drivers should expect short lane closures and delays of about five minutes. They also should watch for flaggers.
WF Construction and Sales, of Meridian, is the contractor for the $1.18 million project.
