Weigh-In-Motion system installed for Lewiston Port of Entry starting Wednesday

LEWISTON - A new weigh-in-motion (WIM) system will be installed for eastbound commercial vehicles at the Lewiston Port of Entry on U.S. 95, starting Tuesday (May 21). The existing westbound WIM system also will be upgraded as part of the project. Installation is expected to continue through mid-August.

The WIM system will safeguard commerce and promote safety by allowing transponder-equipped trucks to be weighed and sorted without coming to a complete stop at the port and allowing them to re-merge with traffic traveling at highway speeds.

During the three-month project, occasional lane closures will be required between mileposts 308 and 311, the first being a three-week left lane closure at milepost 309.3 westbound, about half a mile from the port.

IRD Corp, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada; Quality Electric, of Boise, and ML Albright, of Lewiston, are collaborating on the $1.3 million project.
