Speed limit on U.S. 20 business loop (Farnsworth Way) in Rigby to be lowered to 35 mph June 4
RIGBY - The speed limit on the U.S. 20 business loop (Farnsworth Way) in Rigby will be reduced to 35 mph the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The department will place new signs Tuesday (June 4).
The change will affect the loop east and west of the North Rigby Interchange (Exit 322), between the T intersection of 400 North with Yellowstone Highway in Jefferson County and Community Lane in Rigby, a distance mostly through town of approximately one-half mile.
Rigby city officials asked ITD traffic engineers to conduct a speed zone study as a prelude to reducing the speed limit. Engineers determined that increased traffic in Rigby from new businesseses naturally slows motorists to speeds lower than the area’s posted limit of 45 mph.
Speed limits are intended to supplement driver judgment of what is a reasonable speed for a particular stretch of road under favorable weather conditions.
The Idaho Transportation Board, which must authorize speed-limit changes on state highways, approved the reduction May 16.
Motorists should watch for highway crews in and on shoulders of the business loop.
Idaho State Police and local law enforcement officers will patrol the route during and after the speed limit transition.
