Resurfacing begins next week on Hansen, U.S. 30 bridges

TWIN FALLS – ITD has announced work to improve and extend the lifespan of four bridge decks in eastern Twin Falls County.  The work will begin next week and will have minor impacts to drivers over the coming three weeks.

Work will impact the Hansen Bridge on Idaho 50, as well as three U.S. 30 crossings of the Twin Falls Main Canal east of Hansen.

The Hansen Bridge work over the Snake River will begin Tuesday (May 28) and is expected to be completed by the end of the week. Beginning Friday (May 31), work at each of the three canal crossings will begin and extend through June 14. The crossings are located near Hansen (milepost 230) and Murtaugh (mileposts 236 and 238).

On each bridge, crews will clean the surface before applying an epoxy resin and gravel aggregate. The maintenance project will protect against cracking and corrosion, restore the surface strength and skid resistance, and extend the life of the driving surface. The product is sensitive to temperature and moisture, so work at all locations could be delayed due to weather conditions.

At each location, the roadway will be reduced to one lane of traffic. Drivers should watch for flaggers and expect delays of about five minutes. A 14-foot width restriction will be in effect on all bridges.

The Truesdell Corporation of Tempe, Ariz. is the contractor for the $318,318 project. Bridge surface overlays on the J and H Canal bridges on Idaho 81 in Cassia County are also included in the project and are expect to begin in mid-June.
