North Fork Championship kayak race will impact traffic on Idaho 55 north of Banks for several hours starting Thursday
BOISE - The North Fork Championship, an annual kayak race north of Banks on the North Fork of the Payette River, will cause a restriction to Idaho 55 in the race area for several hours over three days starting Thursday (June 6), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Three separate races are planned using “elite” and “expert” courses. Each race will start at varying distances from Banks:
- The first race will be held on Thursday (June 6) about three miles north of Banks on Idaho 55, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Another race will be held on Friday (June 7), about 11 miles north of Banks on Idaho 55, from 5-6 p.m.
- The last race will be held on Saturday (June 8) about eight miles north of Banks on Idaho 55, from noon to 2 p.m.
The organizers of the NFC provide transportation buses to transport spectators and competitors to the starting location, which greatly reduces the number of extra vehicles along Idaho 55.
Electronic signs will be used north and south of the site to alert drivers to the events.

The Bob LeBow Bike Race also will impact traffic on Saturday (June 8), on Idaho 19, Idaho 45 and Idaho 55/Karcher Road. Law enforcement agencies from Owyhee and Canyon counties will provide extra patrols and enforcement in support of the event. Lake Lowell Avenue also will be used as a central loop in the race route.
