Nighttime lane closures/restrictions planned on I- 90 in Coeur d Alene for bridge project
COEUR d'ALENE - Interstate 90 traffic will be detoured around the Government Way Bridge construction project beginning Wednesday (April 5) and continuing for three nights, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Traffic will be restricted from 8  p.m. until 5 a.m. each night. Daytime traffic will not be restricted.

Eastbound traffic will be detoured at the U.S. 95 interchange onto Appleway and return to the interstate on the 4th Street Exit (Exit 14). Westbound traffic will stay on the interstate but will be restricted to one lane. Detour signs will be posted for eastbound traffic.

Contractors crews will set steel for the new bridge deck.  Motorists are reminded to drive carefully through the posted work zone area and on the detour route.

The bridge closed in the summer of 2005 and is on schedule to reopen in early September.  Government Way is closed at I-90 during construction, but access to local businesses is maintained during the project.

The new bridge will meet modern height, weight and width requirements and eliminate a traffic bottleneck. When completed, Government Way will be four lanes from Harrison Avenue to Dalton Avenue.  The old Government Way Bridge was constructed in 1958.

Morgen Oswood of Great Falls, Mont., is the contractor on this $2.7 million project.
