UPDATE: Shoshone junction reconstruction moved to July 8
SHOSHONE – One project down and one more to go for the U.S. 93/U.S. 26 junction. But road work that was to immediately follow improvements to the railroad crossing will be delayed until after the Fourth of July holiday weekend, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Traffic has been detoured all week as the Union Pacific Railroad rebuilt the crossing of its tracks in the center of Shoshone. Work to improve the adjoining roadway and surrounding sidewalks was to immediately follow, beginning Monday. To better accommodate the increased traffic expected throughout the week surrounding the Fourth of July, the contractor chose to wait to begin work until July 8. The project will involve a reconstruction of the roadway throughout the junction on both the north and south sides of the railroad crossing. Traffic will still be impacted with lane restrictions, but there will be no detour.
Work is expected to be completed by the end of August.
Valley Paving, of Bellevue, is the contractor for the $388,000 project.
