Pair of traffic shifts on Idaho 44 coming, with first slated for Thursday night
A pair of traffic shifts just a few miles apart are planned on sections of Idaho 44 in the next few weeks, with the first one to begin Thursday night with three traffic signals being turned off:
THREE SIGNALS ON IDAHO 44 WILL BE DEACTIVATED THURSDAY NIGHT
EAGLE – The east- and westbound lanes of Idaho 44 will shift to the north side of the highway Thursday night (June 27) as crews rebuild the south side, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced. The work will improve safety, reduce congestion and allow for smoother traffic flow.
The Linder Road, Park Lane and Fisher Park Way signals will be turned off, and flaggers will direct traffic through the three intersections from 9 p.m. Thursday night to 5 a.m. Friday morning. Click here for map.
The traffic shift on Idaho 44 will be in place through September. This
activity marks the beginning of the final phase of improvements. Click here for project
fact sheet and full schedule.
In addition to widening the highway, over the next several months crews will finish rebuilding the intersection of Idaho 44 and Linder Road. The new intersection will have two through lanes on Idaho 44, double left-turn bays on Linder Road and right-turn lanes at all four sides of the intersection.
Central Paving, of Boise, is the contractor on this $9.23 million project. It’s expected that construction will
be complete by this fall.
SHIFT ON IDAHO 44 AFTER HOLIDAY PAVES WAY FOR REALIGNMENT AND EXTENSION
Idaho 44 (State Street) traffic near the
intersection with Idaho 16 will shift to temporary paving on the south highway shoulder
after the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Click here for map.
Traffic will be reduced from three
lanes to two as crews rebuild this section to prepare for the
Idaho 16 realignment and extension. The speed limit is 45 mph through the Idaho 16
construction zones.
Concrete guardrails will separate traffic from construction activities.
When work on the north section is complete, traffic will shift to the new pavement as crews reconstruct the south section. All Idaho 44 work is expected to be complete in November. At that time, Idaho 16 traffic will shift to the new alignment and crews will begin to reconstruct U.S. 20/26 (Chinden Boulevard).
Construction is scheduled for completion in late fall 2014.
Concrete Placing Co., of Boise, and Idaho Sand & Gravel, of Nampa, are the prime contractors. Knife River Construction, of Boise, and Nampa Paving are two of the main subcontractors. The total construction cost is $38.94 million.
