Alternate routes recommended during work on Sunnyside and Yellowstone
RIGBY - Construction on the Sunnyside Interchange to I-15B project has reached the South Yellowstone Highway where it will connect with Sunnyside Road. Beginning next week, motorists will experience some congestion and traffic delays, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Starting Monday (April 3) for about a week, one lane of South Yellowstone will be closed during the day from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. as the contractor prepares for construction of the new intersection.

Within a month, two lanes will be closed and remain closed most of the summer. The traffic signal will be removed. Two-way traffic will be maintained. Motorists should expect delays.

Drivers are asked to consider alternate routes along Rollandet (Fifth West), Holmes Avenue (5th East), Woodruff, Hitt (25th East) and York Road (65th South) to avoid the construction zone at Sunnyside and Yellowstone.

When the interchange is finished late this fall, the new five-lane road will provide a direct route from 33rd South to the medical, residential and commercial districts of Idaho Falls and Ammon to the east. Traffic will access the new road from I-15, 33rd South, Pioneer Road, 2100 West and Eagle Ridge Road.

Idaho Construction is the contractor on the $23 million project.
