No parking along U.S. 20 for Melaleuca fireworks in Idaho Falls Thursday (July 4)

RIGBY - Parking for the Melaleuca Freedom Celebration Thursday (July 4) in Idaho Falls will be prohibited on the grassy areas along U.S. 20 between Science Center Drive and Saturn Street before, during and after the fireworks, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Parking also will be prohibited on Riverside Drive and Vissing Street, and along most interstate exits and entrances. Vehicles parked on the pavement or grass will be removed at the owner's expense.

The transportation department encourages spectators to place their lawn chairs and blankets on the grassy areas but not park their vehicles there. Parking restrictions will be posted, and police will be on hand to monitor traffic.

"Staking out" an area to occupy does not legally reserve a spot for the show, and is discouraged. Stakes and string or ropes can cause damage to city and state sprinkler systems and to mowing equipment. People causing such damage will be responsible for repairs. Idaho Falls Parks and Recreation crews will remove illegally placed stakes, string, rope or other placeholders prior to the fireworks.
