New signal at Eagle Road and Wainwright Drive will be turned on Tuesday night (July 9)

EAGLE – A new traffic signal will be turned on late Tuesday night (July 9) at the intersection of Eagle Road and Wainwright Drive to improve and safely regulate traffic flow. The signal also is intended to help reduce delays on Eagle Road between Interstate 84 and Idaho 44.

See map for the location of the new signal. The Idaho Transportation Department will activate the signal around 11 p.m. Tuesday night.

“A signal at that intersection has always been in the plans for the Eagle Road corridor,” said ITD’s Southwest Idaho Traffic Engineer Kevin Sablan. “The plan for the corridor has always been signals spaced a half-mile apart. Wainwright is at the ½-mile location between Ustick and McMillan roads and is the last of these signals.”

“Having evenly spaced signals throughout the corridor (with the exception of Hobble Creek) allows us to more feasibly establish vehicle progression through the corridor," he added.

The installation of this signal is the last activity of ITD’s Eagle Road Improvement Project.

Improvements over the past year included resurfacing Eagle Road from Fairview Avenue in Meridian to State Street in Eagle and adding raised medians from Franklin Road to Oakhampton Drive, just north of Chinden Boulevard. Raised medians also were added on Chinden Boulevard, from just east of the intersection with Eagle Road to the Target entrance.

The improvements will preserve the surface of Eagle Road, relieve congestion and improve safety on the busy corridor.
