UPDATE: Work begins Monday on highway resurfacing in Fruitland, Payette areas

PAYETTE COUNTY - Crews will begin a series of resurfacing projects on sections of U.S. 30 and U.S. 95 in Payette County on Monday night (July 15). Minor striping removal is slated for Saturday (July 13) to precede the resurfacing.

The brief project is expected to finish several days later by the weekend, with the road being re-striped a week later.

A micro-seal about a half-inch thick will be placed on top of the existing pavement to help preserve the highway surface and improve the ride for motorists.

A micro-seal is comparable to a seal coat but is premixed and applied as a slurry. The micro-seal is often used in higher-traffic areas in place of a seal coat, intended to protect and extend pavement life and provide improved vehicle traction.

The sections of highway to be resurfaced include a 5.3-mile stretch of U.S. 95 from its junction with U.S. 30 (Gayway Junction) in Fruitland north to the northern end of Payette. U.S. 30 from Gayway Junction west to the Snake River Bridge, about 6/10ths of a mile, also will be treated.

All micro-seal work will occur overnight, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction. All lanes will reopen during the daytime.  Flaggers will be used at intersections. Some striping removal and application will occur during the daytime, with minimal impacts to traffic.

VSS International, of Modesto, Calif., is the contractor on this $554,000 project.
