Construction under way on U.S. 26 west of Swan Valley

RIGBY - A highway resurfacing project is under way on U.S. 26 west of Swan Valley, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Crews are resurfacing three miles of highway between Swan Valley and the South Fork Snake River Bridge. The project is scheduled for completion in mid-August.

Travel is reduced to one lane, with flaggers directing traffic through the construction zone. Motorists can expect delays.

Commercial drivers hauling loads wider than 14 feet need to contact Resident Engineer Matt Davison (208-705-6619) 24 hours in advance for special authorization to pass through the construction zone.

Motorists should watch for construction workers and equipment, and obey all traffic signs.

Resurfacing will be on weekdays. The project will extend the life of the highway and improve the riding surface for travelers.

During evenings and on weekends, workers will open the road to two lanes -- one in each direction of travel.

The transportation department awarded HK Contractors Inc., of Idaho Falls, the $627,000 contract.
