Bridge and road projects on Idaho 3 under way near Coeur d’Alene

COEUR d'ALENE - A trio of projects near Coeur d’Alene on Idaho 3 began last week, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The projects are expected to finish by late 2014.

The road project involves resurfacing the 8.4-mile stretch from Swan Creek Bridge to Coeur d’Alene River Bridge. Crews will first perform a CRABS (Cement Recycled Asphalt Base Stabilization), followed by an overlay of new pavement.

A pair of undersized culverts will be removed and replaced at Canary Creek and Robinson Creek.

Treated timber bridges at Willow Creek and Swan Creek also will be removed and replaced. The Willow Creek bridge will be replaced with a single-span structure, and the Swan Creek one with a stiff-legged structure of precast concrete.

Temporary traffic signals will be used during the work at the bridge locations. The highway will be reduced to one lane at the culvert sites, with a 25-mph speed limit. The speed limit will be 35 mph or 45 mph throughout the remainder of the project location.

Apollo Inc., of Tri-Cities, Wash., is the contractor on this $6.27 million project.
