Open house Aug. 7 on Broadway Avenue Interchange replacement

BOISE – The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) will hold a public open house on Wednesday (Aug. 7) to provide information on the replacement of the Broadway Avenue Interchange. In addition, online public meetings will be held Aug. 12 and Aug. 20 to gather input.

The open house will be at the Gateway Shopping Center (2781 Broadway Ave., near Shopko).  Attendees can see the proposed interchange design and speak with ITD project managers and staff. The event is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Online live question-and-answer chat sessions with the project manager will be held on Monday, Aug. 12, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Those interested in signing up for a question-and-answer session can do so by visiting the project webpage and clicking on the Online Public Meeting icon.

Through a statewide evaluation process, the Meridian, Broadway and Gowen interchange replacement projects and widening of I-84 between Broadway and Gowen were chosen based on project readiness, pavement and structure conditions, congestion and safety factors. Construction is expected to begin in early 2014 and anticipated to be complete by fall 2015 on all three interchanges.

“When the projects are finished, I-84 will be completely widened from Franklin Road in Nampa to Gowen Road in Boise. These improvements will relieve congestion and enhance safety and traffic flow from one end of the Treasure Valley to the other,” said Amy Schroeder, ITD’s GARVEE Program Manager.

“Rebuilding these three major interchanges has the potential to impact every driver in the region, so we want to inform and involve as many people as possible.”
