Resurfacing of highways in Idaho Falls starts Sunday night (Aug. 4)
RIGBY - Resurfacing of several state highways in Idaho Falls will begin Sunday night (Aug. 4), the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Construction will be at night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Crews will resurface one and one-half miles of U.S. 20 (Broadway Street) between Bellin Road and Yellowstone Highway, one and one-quarter miles of U.S. 20 between Saturn Avenue and Science Center Drive, two miles of the I-15 business loop between Sunnyside Road and Broadway Street, and one-half mile of U.S. 26 between Broadway Street and Lomax Street.
Workers will mill, overlay and later apply a polymer-modified asphalt seal and stripes to the old pavement at night, providing a smoother riding surface. In preparation, crews have been replacing adjoining curb, gutter, sidewalk and approaches, and adjusting manholes during the day.
To speed completion of the project, which is scheduled for mid-September, construction will occur seven days a week.
Travel will be reduced to one lane in each direction, with flaggers directing traffic through intersections. Crews will open the roadway fully each morning.
Commercial drivers transporting loads wider than 14 feet need to contact Resident Engineer Wade Allen (208-745-5680) or Staff Engineer Bryan Young (208-745-5682) 24 hours in advance for special authorization to pass through the construction zone.
Travelers, including motorists and pedestrians, should watch for construction workers and equipment, and obey all traffic signs.
The transportation department awarded the $3.7 million contract to HK Contractors Inc., of Idaho Falls.
