Bridge girder installation will restrict Interstate 84 lanes near Twin Falls overnight Wednesday, Thursday
TWIN FALLS – Traffic will be reduced to one lane in both directions Wednesday and Thursday (Aug. 7, 8) while crews install bridge girders for the new Interstate 84 eastbound bridge over U.S. 93. Work will take place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. both nights, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Setting the girders will take place at night to reduce the impact on U.S. 93 traffic. Drivers can expect delays and lane restrictions during the nighttime operation.
The contractor also will begin paving major portions of the new on- and off-ramps beginning this week. Drivers are reminded to watch for trucks entering and exiting the construction zone on both I-84 and U.S. 93 the next two weeks. Traffic will shift onto the new ramps later this month once a new traffic signal is installed.
After girders are set, the contractor will continue bridge construction by placing the concrete road surface, constructing the approach slabs and adjoining roadway, and installing safety devices. Construction is expected to be completed in October.
Western Construction, of Boise, is the contractor for the $11.8 million bridge replacement and ramp reconstruction project.
