Bridge reconstruction to begin in Declo Monday
DECLO – Work is expected to begin Monday (Aug. 12) to replace the 75-year-old bridge over Marsh Creek at the east edge of Declo, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Drivers expect minor delays on Idaho 81 for as long as three months during construction.
Crews will replace the 30-foot bridge and approaching roadway with a similar, but wider, concrete structure. The bridge was constructed in 1938.
The roadway will be reduced to one lane and controlled by a temporary traffic signal while half the bridge is replaced at any time. A 35-mph speed limit and a 12-foot width restriction will be in effect during construction.
Construction of the bridge was scheduled to take place in the fall when the water level in the creek was at its lowest to reduce the impact to the creek and surrounding wetlands. After constructing each half of the bridge structure, crews will apply a concrete sealant and repave the adjoining roadway.
Knife River Corp., of Boise, is the contractor for the $868,451 project. Work is expected to be complete by the end of November.
