RIGBY - Here is the eastern Idaho highway construction update for June 28 through July 5. (Note: Highway construction activity will cease during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.)

Sunnyside/Interstate 15 Interchange to I-15B The last of the steel girders are being placed this week on the center section of the new Snake River Bridge. Concrete will be poured July 5, 7 and 11 on the I-15 interchange deck south of Idaho Falls. Traffic on I-15 south of Idaho Falls is one lane in each direction between mileposts 114 and 120 throughout the summer. The speed limit is 55 mph. The $23 million project is scheduled for completion by fall 2006. Contractor is Idaho Construction of Kimberly.

U.S. 20, Hitt and St. Leon Interchanges Traffic is one lane in each direction with a speed limit of 55 mph on U.S. 20 north of Idaho Falls. Access is closed to and from U.S. 20 north of Idaho Falls to Ucon. Businesses on those roads can be accessed from county roads. Western Construction of Boise is building the $19 million project that is scheduled for completion by this fall.

U.S. 20/Holbrook Road H-K Contractors is lengthening the southbound on-ramp and has begun repairing the South Rigby overpass, which is closed until mid-July. Alternate routes are the North Rigby Interchange and the County Line Road Interchange.

Idaho 33, Canyon Creek Bridge Sletten Construction of Great Falls, Mont., is setting steel beams for the deck of the new bridge over Canyon Creek east of Newdale. The speed limit is 45 mph. Traffic is routed over the old bridge. The $4.3 million project is scheduled for completion by fall.

I-15, Hamer to Dubois, northbound Northbound traffic on I-15 will move to the southbound lanes at milepost 149 on Wednesday (June 29). Traffic will be one lane in each direction using the southbound lanes while the northbound lanes are rehabilitated with a plant mix overlay and seal coat between mileposts 150 and 168. Western Construction is the contractor on the $5.2 million project.

Seal coats H-K Contractors of Idaho Falls started seal coating a number of highways throughout District 6 on Monday. Work began on Idaho 33 between mileposts zero and 5 in Butte County. A seal coat protects the existing road from water damage, prolongs its life and provides better traction. Motorists are reminded to drive slowly and follow other vehicles at a safe distance to reduce the risk of windshield damage. Projects include:

  • Idaho 33 between mileposts 16 and 21 and from milepost 29 to 39
  • U.S. 93 west of Arco at Test Area North
  • Idaho 31 at Pine Creek Pass
  • U.S. 26 from Swan Valley to the Wyoming/Idaho border

U.S. 20, Twin Groves to Chester Legrand Johnson Construction of Logan, Utah, will seal coat the northbound lanes of U.S. 20 from Twin Groves to Chester beginning after the Fourth of July. The road was reconstructed last summer. Motorists are reminded to obey speed limits and traffic control when traveling in the work zone.

Idaho 32, Fremont County Line to Ashton H-K Contractors is milling and overlaying Idaho 32 from milepost eight to 28. The project includes some widening and a four-mile section of the Ashton-to-Tetonia Rails-to-Trails project in near Lamont.
